The Discovery Radar
How the radar works and how to read the visual status icons.
Once you tap Start, you are taken directly to the Discovery Radar screen.
The screen shows a circular radar view with a rotating sweep that updates automatically in real-time as people nearby turn Connect on or off, or move into your area.
🔒 Absolute Location Privacy
Your actual GPS coordinates, home address, or physical movements are never shared with other users.
Your phone only talks securely to the UTurn server to see who is in the neighborhood. The server checks the distance and tells other apps only one basic piece of information: whether you are in Zone 1, 2, or 3. Nobody can track your actual steps or figure out your exact location.
What the Icons Mean
Every person on your radar is represented by a single shortcut icon. At a quick glance, that icon tells you what you need to know about them before you say hello:
- The Main Picture: Shows exactly what they are in the mood for. If they want a cup of coffee, you’ll see a coffee cup; if they want to find a sports partner, you’ll see a basketball.
- The Colored Line at the Bottom: A thin horizontal line indicates their gender identity.
- 🟦 Blue Line: Male
- 🟥 Red Line: Female
- The Tiny Corner Dot: This colored dot shows their generalized distance zone from your current position:
- 🟢 Green Dot: Zone 1 — Very Close (Within 0.6 miles / 1 km)
- 🟠 Orange Dot: Zone 2 — Nearby (Within 1.4 miles / 2 km)
- 🔴 Red Dot: Zone 3 — Further Out (Within 2.0 miles / 3 km)
- The Size of the Icon: To make the map intuitive, people who are closer to you have larger, brighter icons. As people get further away, their icons automatically get smaller and slightly faded.
How to Say Hello
If you see an activity or a person that matches your vibe, simply tap their icon.
This opens up their local Connect profile where you can view their photos, see their age, and read the custom status note they typed out. From there, you can send a quick message to set up a casual meetup!
