Voice and Video Call Security

Every voice and video call you make on UTurn is protected by end-to-end encryption. This means the actual sound of your voice and your live video stream are completely locked from the moment they leave your phone until they reach the person you are talking to.

UTurn never has access to your live call data, the content of your conversations, or the keys used to secure them.

How Your Call Connects

To give you the highest audio and video quality, UTurn always tries to connect your phone directly to the other person’s phone.

When you start a call, UTurn’s servers handle the initial setup to help the two devices find each other on the internet. Once that quick handshake is complete and the call is live, your scrambled audio and video flow directly between the two devices.

While the call is active, our servers only stay involved to monitor if someone hangs up or to help the phones reconnect if your cellular or Wi-Fi signal drops.

When Direct Connections Are Blocked

Sometimes, a direct link between the two phones is impossible. This is usually caused by strict security settings on a home internet router, public Wi-Fi network, or corporate firewall that blocks direct peer-to-peer traffic.

When this happens, UTurn automatically switches to a backup method using a relay server to bridge the gap:

1. Both phones establish a secure line to a UTurn relay server.
2. The server passes the encrypted audio and video back and forth between the two devices.

The Blind Messenger: Even when a relay server is used, your call remains completely locked end-to-end. The server acts as a blind messenger—it simply passes the scrambled data packets along to the other screen. It does not possess the keys to unlock your data, meaning it cannot listen to your voice, see your video, or read the stream.

Our Privacy Assurances

• Device-Level Control: Only the two phones actively participating in the call hold the cryptographic keys required to lock and unlock the audio and video streams.
• No Server Access: UTurn’s systems are technically incapable of accessing, decoding, or listening to your call content.
• Zero Recording: Your calls are never recorded, logged, analyzed, or tracked by UTurn. Both direct and relayed calls offer the exact same airtight level of privacy.
