Read Receipts
How to know when your messages have been opened and how to control your privacy settings.
Want to know if your message has been seen? UTurn uses read receipts to let you know exactly when your contact has opened your conversation.
What Are Read Receipts?
A read receipt is a status indicator that appears on your message bubble once your message has been opened. It gives you confirmation that your message wasn’t just delivered to the phone, but was actually viewed.
Read receipts apply to all types of communication inside a chat thread:
- Text messages
- Photos, videos, and files
- Voice notes
How Read Receipts Behaviors Work
In One-on-One Chats
The solid green status icon appears the exact moment the other person opens the chat window containing your message.
In Group Chats
Because groups involve multiple people, the read receipt status icon will only appear after every single member of the group has opened the chat and viewed the message. If even one person hasn’t opened it yet, the message will remain at the “Delivered” status.
Managing Your Privacy Settings
You have full control over whether you send and receive read receipts in your private, one-on-one conversations:
- Read receipts are enabled by default.
- You can turn them off at any time by going to your app settings.
Reciprocal Privacy Rule: Privacy on UTurn works both ways. If you choose to turn off your own read receipts so others cannot see when you read their messages, you will also no longer be able to see when they read yours. Your incoming and outgoing messages will permanently stop at the “Delivered” status.
Group Chat Exception
To keep group coordination clear and functional, read receipts inside group chats are always on and cannot be turned off, regardless of your personal account settings.
